DAYTONA BEACH BLUES SOCIETY (DBBS)

General Meeting Minutes

Tuesday January 14, 2025, 6:00pm at Houligan’s Daytona

7 Board members in attendance: Jack Bailey, Ron Szpak, Debbie Diaz, Ursula O’Leary, Brian Glaze, Dan Downer, Bill Faro

Members in attendance: George Kedenburg, John Inman, Mark & Ana Nobles, Harry Armesto, Ed Tobin, Doug & Julia Lotito, Mark Evangelista, Dave Baich, Doug Baldauf, Rafael Fuentes

  • Meeting was called to order at 6:15 by Jack Bailey with 19 total members in attendance.

  • November 12, 2024 Board meeting minutes were approved by Bill, seconded by Dan

  • Debbie gave Treasurer’s report: $6,564.76 cash in bank

She reported that the DBBS was only out of pocket by $100 for our January 7 blues

music jam after paying the host bank after our large turn-out.

  • Ron reported that there was a long list of 25 people signed up to jam. We all agreed to set a protocol & post on our website & Facebook that for future jams current DBBS members are given priority to play, first come, first served, and they will have a 10 minute time limit to play so that more people get a chance. Instruments need to be tuned & ready to play, and no drinks are to be brought on stage. We also discussed the need for getting sponsors to help pay for the cost of the host band at our jams. Joe Motte & Friends will host our February blues jam on Tuesday, February 4, We will not have a jam night in March because Beachside is having other bands play during Bike Week, so our next monthly jam will be on Tues, April 1.

  • We have collaborated with the City of Holly Hill to have our music concert at MetroHealth Stadium at Pictona in Holly Hill on Friday, September 12, 2025 6-9pm. The event name we voted and agreed on is “Fall into the Blues” This will be a benefit concert for Guitars for Veterans. Our budget will be between $5,000-$10,000. Our target goal is $10,000. We need a headliner band (Dyer Davis?), sound man (Ron will contact Luke), flyers & packets made for getting sponsors ASAP. The City of Holly Hill will also provide printed & digital marketing materials on various social media platforms as soon as we provide them with event details.

  • Jack checked with another merchandise company, Design Hill, but they wanted to charge $400-500 for our logo, which we already have, so it was agreed upon to continue to use CafePress for online merchandise sales. Jack will also contact Barry about a cost for having some hats made to compare prices.

  • We agreed to renew our $370 annual membership in January with the Daytona Beach Chamber of Commerce to give us exposure through networking in hopes of growing our Society membership. Jack & Dan are attending the Chamber’s Business After Hours event at Pictona on January 21st.

  • Ed Tobin gave us an update on Guitars for Veterans. The VA is sending more students and lessons are held at the American Lesion and The Hub on Canal in New Smyrna Beach. He will let us know if we should continue to use the brochures we have or if they have updated ones for us to display at our events.

  • Rafael Fuentes suggested making an audio CD sampler of original songs by member musicians. He offered us to use his recording sound studio.

  • We continue to resolve posting issues with our 2 Facebook accounts.

  • Our next Board meeting will be on Tuesday, February 11, and our next General meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 11, 2025, 6pm at Houligan’s Daytona in the upstairs meeting room.

There being no other business brought forth for discussion, the meeting was adjourned by Jack Bailey at 8:10pm

Respectfully submitted

Ursula O’Leary, Secretary
